The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a public research university with campuses in Vancouver and Kelowna, British Columbia. Established in 1908, UBC is British Columbia's oldest university. The university is ranked among the top 20 public universities worldwide and among the top three in Canada. The Vancouver campus is situated about 10 km (6 mi) west of Downtown Vancouver. One of the largest research libraries in Canada, the UBC Library system has over 9.9million volumes among its 21 branches. The Okanagan campus, acquired in 2005, is in Kelowna, British Columbia.

As of 2017, eight Nobel laureates, 71 Rhodes scholars, 65 Olympians, ten fellows in both the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and the Royal Society, and 208 fellows to the Royal Society of Canada have been affiliated with UBC. Three Canadian prime ministers, including Canada's first female prime minister Kim Campbell and current prime minister Justin Trudeau, have been educated at UBC.

 

University of Victoria

The University of Victoria (UVic) is a major public research university located in the Greater Victoria municipalities of Oak Bay and Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. The University of Victoria is the oldest post-secondary institution in British Columbia, tracing its roots back to Victoria College, which was founded in 1903, under the sponsorship of McGill University. The university has approximately 22,000 students, including many post-graduate and doctoral candidates. The university operates nine academic faculties and schools; the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business, and the Faculties of Education, Engineering, Fine Arts, Human & Social Development, Humanities, Law, Science, and Social Sciences. The University of Victoria has also produced several Rhodes and Gates Scholars in recent years, and its alumni and faculty have worked on Nobel Prize-winning research teams.

 

Simon Fraser University

Simon Fraser University (SFU) was founded upon the recommendation of a 1962 report entitled Higher Education in British Columbia and a Plan for the Future, by John B. Macdonald. Simon Fraser University is a public research university in British Columbia, Canada, with three campuses: Burnaby (main campus), Surrey, and Vancouver. The 170-hectare (420-acre) main Burnaby campus on Burnaby Mountain, located 20 kilometers (12 mi) from downtown Vancouver, was established in 1965 and comprises more than 30,000 students and approximately 950 faculty members.

Undergraduate and graduate programs at SFU operate on a year-round, three-semester schedule, and it is the only Canadian university that competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In 2015, SFU became the second Canadian university to receive accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. SFU faculty and alumni have won 43 fellowships to the Royal Society of Canada, three Rhodes Scholarships, and one Pulitzer Prize.

 

Thompson Rivers University

THOMPSONRIVERS

Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is a public teaching and research university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees and vocational training. Its main campus is in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, and its name comes from the two rivers which converge in Kamloops, the North Thompson and South Thompson. The university has a satellite campus in Williams Lake, BC, and a distance education division called TRU-Open Learning. It also has several international partnerships through its TRU World division.

TRU offers 140 on-campus programs and approximately 60 online or distance programs through the Open Learning Division, including trades apprenticeships, vocational certificates and diplomas, bachelor's and master's degrees, and law.

Langara College is a public degree-granting college in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, which serves approximately 22,000 students annually through its university, career, and continuing studies programs. Langara College provides university-level programs and courses and offers a variety of qualifications, including baccalaureate degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates, and citations. The three 4-year degree programs offered by the College are Nursing, Recreation Management, and Business Administration. Langara's wide range of academic programs in more than 60 subject areas is offered over three semesters per year.
