Manitoba Skilled Worker categories

Over the last two decades, the MPNP brought in more than 130,000 economic immigrants to Manitoba of whom more than 20% established themselves in regional communities throughout the province.

In Manitoba, high-powered economy, skilled workers, tradespeople and professionals are in demand. In fact, the Government of Manitoba projects a labour shortage of over 20,000 skilled workers by 2020.

That’s why Manitoba was the first Canadian province to establish its own immigration program, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP).

Each year, some 15,000 immigrants arrive in Manitoba. The outcomes for internationally experienced workers who immigrate through the MPNP are positive. According to a recent survey, 85 per cent of Manitoba nominees were working three months after arrival, 76 per cent were homeowners within five years and 95 per cent of families settled permanently in the community.

The Skilled Worker categories operate through an 'Expression of Interest' system, whereby eligible candidates complete a series of questions online and are not required to upload supporting documentation before submitting their profile into the EOI pool. Profiles will be placed in the pool with other eligible candidates and you will receive a score based on the answers you provide. The Manitoba Provincial Nominee program (MPNP) will then rank you using several factors and if you are among the highest-scoring candidates, you may be invited to submit an application to the MPNP. There are no limits on the number of candidates who can submit an Expression of Interest and no deadline.

The MPNP is all set to undergo a complete overhaul in 2019. Major changes are being introduced to the program to allow more skilled immigrants into the province. One of the most important changes in this sense is a new dedicated stream of international students who have graduated from universities in Manitoba and another stream for business immigrants.

There are currently two streams to Manitoba as a skilled worker, both of which operate under the MPNP Expression of Interest System. As part of the MPNP renewal, the Skilled Worker Immigration Streams will consist of four pathways as explained below.

A- Skilled Worker Overseas Stream

- Express Entry Pathway
- Human Capital Pathway

B- Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream

- Work Experience Pathway
- Employer Direct Recruitment Pathway
